It was well after midnight when the group of four met inside the darkened storage barn one-half mile north of town. Each arrived quietly knowing that new business was at hand that would require swift justice. No names were ever spoken, though the identity of everyone was known yet never discussed. A barn lantern was lit, and the evening activities discussed. They met not to represent the local law enforcement community but to avenge the guilty and the transgressors as they saw fit to do whether Negro, white man, or woman. Justice will be served this night.
