10 Questions Authors Definitely Don’t Ask Us (wink, wink)

At Yorkshire Publishing, we truly love our authors. They’re passionate, creative, hopeful, and deeply invested in their books. And because it’s April Fools’ Day, we thought we’d have a little fun with a few questions authors absolutely, positively never ask when starting their publishing journey.

Can I use AI the illustrate my book?

No; while AI illustration tools are moving fast, readers still care deeply about original, human-created illustration that’s meant specifically for your book’s tone, audience, and market.

If you’re publishing a children’s book, memoir, or fiction title, original art remains the industry standard.

Can we skip editing? I don’t want to change anything.

We get it. Your manuscript is personal. Our job isn’t to change your voice—it’s to make sure readers hear it clearly. Good editing keeps what makes your writing you, while smoothing the bumps and strengthening the story.

Professional editing is one of the most important steps in both traditional and hybrid publishing.

When will Oprah pick up my book for her book club?

We admire the confidence. Honestly, we’d celebrate right along with you. Book clubs like Oprah’s Book Club have launched incredible titles.

In the meantime, we focus on the many ways books find readers, which tend to be more predictable than celebrity book clubs.

Will Meryl Streep narrate my audiobook?

We agree she’d be incredible. Sadly, Meryl Streep’s availability is limited, and her budget is astronomical. We do, however, work with wonderful professional narrators who bring stories to life beautifully without breaking the bank.

Will my book be a movie?

Film paths do exist, but they always start with a well-made book finding real readers first. Hollywood likes proof people loved it.

Strong book sales and audience demand are what attract film and streaming interest.

Can you make my book go viral on TikTok?

We wish we had that magic wand. TikTok (especially BookTok) can absolutely move books. But when it comes down to it, virality is timing, trends, and a mysterious algorithm no one fully understands. What we can do is help you create visibility, early buzz, and shareable marketing moments that support long-term discoverability.

Can you get me on Good Morning America?

We absolutely pitch media and pursue broadcast opportunities. But morning like Good Morning America aren’t guaranteed placements—they’re earned, story-driven moments. That said, we fully support practicing your on-air smile just in case. 😉

I just signed my contract (in October). Can we get this out for Christmas?

Holiday enthusiasm is great, but good books take time—editing, illustration, design, printing, distribution. So yes, we can plan a holiday launch… just not the one eight weeks away.

How many copies will Target order?

Retail placement is a great goal, and we pursue the right opportunities. But distribution works through demand, fit, and sales—not automatic nationwide orders from retailers like Target. Retail usually happens step by step, not all at once.

Can we get my book into every library in the U.S.?

Libraries choose individually based on their readers and budgets. There’s no giant “send to all libraries” button in publishing (we’ve checked).

What we can do is make your book available, visible, and requestable through proper distribution channels—which is how books land in libraries.

In All Seriousness

Behind the humor, though, are real publishing questions that many writers wonder about when choosing a traditional or hybrid publisher.

Our role as a Tulsa-based publisher is to guide honestly, professionally, and collaboratively so each book has the strongest possible path to readers—whether through traditional publishing or hybrid publishing.

Big dreams are welcome here. We just pair them with a good plan.
