Everyone looks around, trying to determine where the screech originated. Just as the drums start back up, a piercing voice, as loud as a ten-megaton explosion, yells, “Die! White woman.”
Before the echo of these threatening words is carried away on the wind, Sarah is surrounded by five beautiful eagles flapping their huge wings as they perch in the cottonwood she is standing under. The air stirs with the movement of people, but the Eagle’s piercing scream is so eerie the Apache halt in mid-stride as others stampede in the opposite direction away from the huge birds.
